Am I sterilising correctly?

hi!
first time mum of one (born 4 days ago!) and just wanted advice I was sterilising my bottles correctly (baby is formula fed)

we have the Milton cold water steriliser - am I right in thinking once we have washed the bottles we chuck everything in the Milton and then when we want to use we just shake off excess water? Because if we dry them with a towel / kitchen paper they aren’t sterile anymore? So they are wet when we use them?

I know the Milton fluid is safe I just want to double check!

im considering getting the uv steriliser/dryer as not sure I like the bottles being wet! 🙈 but not sure it’s worth it…

so yeah, just some advice that I’m doing it right!

thank you!

Congratulations on your baby!
Maybe get a bottle dryer rack (you can find cheap ones in Aldi or Amazon) and let the bottles dry on it. I never dried them out with kitchen towel or paper as little fluffy things ended up in the bottle. I also didn't like using them wet. So I think drying them out on the rack is the best solution.

Yup, you need a drying rack. Then you can just leave them out to dry and pick them up when needed.

I hated the smell of Milton so had MAM bottles which can be sterilised in the microwave - bloody brilliant! They still come out wet though so you'll need somewhere to leave them to dry.

We use Mam bottles like a pp and didn't need a steriliser, but I just put them back together wet (shake out the water left in the sink) and haven't had a problem!

I used Milton on holiday once though and did T like the idea of bleachy water inside them so did leave them to air dry but baby was over 6 months by then and I wasn't as cautious about keeping everything uber sterile

I’ve also been using the Mam bottles wet and hope this is OK. No problems yet either. I’m planning to try the Milton steriliser soon as we are going away where we won’t have a microwave and wondering about drying them - would definitely be easier to use them wet

Just a word if warning to those pp's who are going away and planning to use Milton for their mam bottles - try it out at home first! We went away with 4mo DS a few weeks ago and he absolutely refused to drink from his bottles that had been sterilised in Milton, we ended up boiling the teats to try to get the taste off them as that's what I assume he didn't like but he was still fussy about feeds until we got home and could microwave his bottles again!

I use Milton sterliser and just shake off the excess, my bubs is 3.5 months and is fine
I agree the smell isn't great but it's totally safe and I can't be bothered with the microwave sterlising so I just wash them, pop them in and grab when I need them

Sometimes I get them out 2 at a time as generally don't put more than 2 in just as I find it gets too compacted x
