How to stop 4yr old sucking comforter

Hi, my daughter has had a 'stinky bear' comforter for 3 years that she sucks to death at night, I have just realised it is polyester so want her to stop as soon as possible as cant be good for her but I have tried giving her a muslin and a flannel to suck but she just can't sleep till I say it is OK to suck the Bear then she is out like a light. I have tried cutting 1 corner out of 3, tried explaining to her it is stinky and too old to suck now. Any ideas please? Any success? I feel it might be a disaster going cold turkey.....eek! Thanks for any ideas......

What’s wrong with sucking polyester?

I'm slightly worried about this too, I have a 1yo who sucks his teddy to sleep and I do occasionally wonder when he'll stop sucking and just cuddle! I do often say to him ah give cuddles when talking about the teddy and he does do it, so I'm hoping I can just say that more often and it'll start to be more interesting to cuddle it then suck it. It smells absolutely disgusting in the morning, I have to wash it daily!
