Humidifier, dehumidifier????

Recently we renovated the house
we shifted to the basement
we are a big joint family so me my husband and kids renovated the basements from scratch and moved down ( more privacy ). Also just had a baby
we invested in a humidifier because my baby sounds so nasily and I noticed he always has his mouth wide open for some reason. I assumed maybe he can’t breath properly
maybe nose blocked
so I invested in a humidifier
last night he actually slept when normally he doesn’t sleep this good, no idea if it was the humidifier… anyway , I woke up and my bedroom carpeted floor was soaking wet !
now usually they always feel a bit cold, I won’t say wet but slightly cold damp but not wet so I always thought it’s on my head but then when I did research… apparently cellars need dehumidifiers …
now I’m super confused because it says humidity causes damp and mold and more health issues . I just want him to breath properly and easy
now I have soaking wet cellar carpet and a brand new humidifier that wasn’t cheap and I’m confused…

A humidifier will cause damp, yep. Can you return it?

Which humidifier is it?

I have a Dyson one and things are never wet 🤔

We’ve had it around 4 years, no damp anywhere in the house

I think you need a dehumidifier. Otherwise it will make things more humid…

Humidifiers are great for congested babies…. But it shouldn’t be making your carpet wet. If you are living in a basement how well ventilated is it? How warm is it? You can get humidity meters (hygrometers) pretty cheaply from Amazon.
