Anyone banned all screen time and made huge difference?

I am wondering whether to ban all screen time completely for a while to see if this improves on behaviour. We're strict as it is anyway, only up to one hour a day... Typically YouTube or CBBC. Absolutely no video games in the house. Child is 9. Did it work for anyone?

Do other people in the house use screens?

I've not banned tv, but banned all gaming and Internet access unless it's for homework and yes, it made a huge difference. Dcs actually spoke to each other nicely and playfully and their schoolwork was better.
There is a transition period that's difficult but that was ok after 3-4 days.

Why do you think an hour of cbbc is causing bad behaviour?

“Screen time” is story time. Stories are so important!

For our understanding of human relationships and each other, seeing all the real-life situations they may come across one day playing out, with different reactions, body language, feelings and consequences.

Video games also build decision making skills, strategy, reaction times,, etc. it’s exposure to something creative and artistic that a team of real people collaborated on.

You can have some great conversations with your kids about life if you have time to snuggle up with them and join in. And lots of laughs too.

Not saying a week off as punishment is a bad idea, but you really don’t need to be 😱 about Tv and games.

TV wasnt 'banned' but no consoles and no personal devices, just a family laptop. None of ours ever asked for a console. Tbh we are quite a low screen family so for quite a few years we had a TV but no one watched it really! It is easiest to just not have the devices I think.

I grew up in a house with no TV, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

I'd say it's unlikely that an hour of CBBC is causing problematic behaviour. I'd look elsewhere first.

it's definitely not cbbc that's the problem maybe it's the strict rules and the whole 'screentime is the enemy' shtick
