Struggling with weaning?

So 9.5 mo goes to nursery 3 days a week but starting a 4th day next month due to me having to fully return to work

each day I see his little daily rundown and they say he eats EVERYTHING. Meals snacks!

right now at home he’s throwing everything though? It’s a struggle to get him to eat

Hes always been up and down I don’t know why it’s rare he’s finished a whole meal. He only has when I fed him it but now I do BLW so let him feed himself a bit

is this normal? I mean he has 3 (soon to be 4) good food days and he’s not struggling with growth. It’s just more how do I help him learn as I understand it’s a skill

He'll eat if he's hungry. There's really no need to worry.

I've got 3dc (youngest is 18m) and I've done mainly blw except where I didn't have time to tidy up (eg porridge and spoon). They all are very little in comparison to what is think was reasonable until nearly age 2. It's just age appropriate - their main food source should be milk until they're 1 and the reality is that many kids have a slow transition between their 1st and 2nd birthday.

Of course some kids are Kramer on solids - but what you describe is perfectly normal for the age

2nd para should read "they all ate very little..."

Yeah he’s also got a lot of teeth quick he’s got 8 now and we think a back one due to grinding and putting his finger back and feeling his gum (but with him being young he won’t open his mouth wide unless crying and bless him he’s not really a crier!)

And he’s had a viral infection from nursery for weeks which still won’t go he’s got a bad cough and stuffed nose (doctor says it’ll pass🙄)

So these things could affect his appetite?

do I ask nursery what they do to get him to eat well??

Im a fussy eater I barely eat I’m really bad and my boyfriend (his dad) is so beige I don’t want him having our taste buds I really want to try him on lots of food and hope he likes a variety

No advice but I’m in the same boat with 10mo! She won’t open her mouth for a spoon at home but allegedly eats everything in sight at nursery 3x a week.

Oh I forgot the best part, I asked how on earth they had managed to get her to eat broccoli and potatoes and they leaned in and said…
(wait for it)
”I mashed it up”
Well damn, I was just pointing at the fridge and telling her where to find veg! 🤷‍♀️
I did manage to respond without being sarcastic or laughing but it was a challenge. They are clearly food and sleep wizards who guard their techniques well.

Children learn by what other’s around them do.

The things you mention will effect his appetite.

How is he with finger food?

He’s been so good ! The nursery give him full solids too

hes loved broccoli, avocado on toast, peanut butter crumpets and did enjoy boiled eggs at one point!

but now it feels like such a task trying to get him to eat
