2yo NITS!!!

DD woke up from her nap scratching her head and I’ve just seen a live nit on her head 🤢
I’ll pop to boots for a nit comb but does anyone have tips for getting a 2yo to sit and have their hair combed?

She absolutely loathes it being washed at the best of times so I’m open to any ideas to make it less painful! We have a new baby as well so can’t just gang up on her with DH and pin her down whilst the other combs as one of us needs to have the baby, I’ll need a bit of cooperation from her so I can see to do it!

TV and a usually forbidden snack.

In bath with loads of leave in conditioner so you don’t have to rinse her hair again. Give her something very interesting to play with, e.g. ice cubes if she doesn’t usually get them to play with in the bath.

And comb with a normal comb first so the nit comb goes through better

Second the comb with a normal comb first.

Nitty Gritty combs are the best. Look for the lice shampoo as well. We use lyclear shampoo and the separate repellant spray.

You'll also need to comb and treat your hair and DH's hair, don't know about baby, depends on how much hair.

NHS website gives set days to redo the combing. You need to do it a few times over 2 weeks.

We're currently 1 week in after 1 lice was found in 5yo DS's hair.

Thanks all, my head feels so itchy but not sure how much of it is psychological. Will make sure me and DH are sorted too. Really annoyed I’ve let my hair grow long now 😅

I always feel itchy when lice are mentioned. Every time school messages to say lice in school I start itching, even if DS doesn't have them.

Oh, forgot to also mention tea tree shampoo and conditioner. Apparently lice don't like tea tree. So wash all you hair in tea tree products for the next couple of weeks.

I don't know if that actually works but it makes me feel like it does.

iPad with coco melon and some snack that takes effort to eat ie magic stars to chocolate buttons. Desperate times and all that.

I work with children and my head is crawling with itchiness every time we have nits at work, even though I don’t have them. I think it’s a mental thing.

I’ve heard people saying tea tree hair products help repel them but I’m not sure if it’s true or not!

Snacks and something to watch on TV while you treat/comb

P.s. nits are empty egg cases. The live insects are lice
