I feel like Im losing the plot parenting my teenager...
Shes 13, going on 30 and things are constantly difficult. She is rude, short tempered we dont have a great relationship, much to my disappointment.
She has started having issues at school (DH has ADHD and I suspect she has too), which I think is affecting behaviour. Today I got a notifcation from the school that she has got a detention (first one ever) for talking in the line during a fire alarm. There are other verbal warnings recently, for chatting, giggling, forgetting things, not doing homework, etc. I have tried to support her with organisation, but she isnt interested and thinks I'm meddling..
Shes not committing crimes, by any means, but there is a lot of low level distruptive behaviour and I'm worried about it spiralling. As a former teacher, I am silently horrified that she's getting caught up in bad behvaiour and saddened that she doesnt have respect for school/ adults in general (?)...
I am also concerned that I just dont know how to discipline her at home. Does her detention warrant further discipline at home tonight? She has already rang me and apoplogised (apparently it was someone elses fault 🙄). She says everytime I open my mouth, its to crisitise or moan. She's probably right 🙈
Any advice/books/blogs or support would be so helpful, thanks MNers!
