facing up to potty training

hi, i've got 2.2yo b/g twins, and was starting to think about potty training, but ds has started of his own accord! dd is SN and is likely to be in nappies for a long while yet, so just ds to worry about.
He does a poo in his nappy, comes and tells me, then makes me take him to the loo so he can flush the poo away and wash his hands. He has a potty, but he has refused to sit on it for months. He seems keen to use the loo like his dad "dada poo" he says a lot! Should i get a toilet seat thingy, or persevre with the potty? should I book dd in with mil for a week and just go for it, or wait? He doens't understand wee at all, and is not dry for any appreciable time during the day or night?
Sorry for the barrage of questions, but am absolutely dreading this bit of his childhood! wish i could fast forward to him being reliablly dry! Thanks

Hi Milge,
I have just toilet trained my DS aged 2.4!.If i were you i'd buy a toilet seat.We have both the seat and a potty called "the royal potty".He uses both.
I also put DS in bright bots training pants(like underpants but have a small wad to absorb any little tinkles!).
Once a child is ready it just"clicks"!.

finleysmum, where did you get your training pants from? And how long did it take to train your Ds? I've been attempting on and off to do dd and am currently on 'off' mode but constantly preparing myself for 'on' mode again!

Believe it or not it has only taken a week but during that week we have been completely house bound!.
I didn't want to take my son out in a nappy or it might confuse him!.
I bought the training pants from The Nappy Lady
these are what we \link{http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/Shopping/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=16\use}

TBH though my DS is 2 and 4 months and must have been ready!.

they look great but I don't understand the sizing, if you have a slim build 2 year old (as I have) which ones do you get?

bluemoon · 08/12/2004 21:00

I wondered that too. I got the Mothercare training pants in size small for dd which was meant to be 18-24 months but they were absurdly enormous ...

finleysmum · 09/12/2004 21:11

I have 2 sizes.I have the size S and the M.
Small are about 18/24 months and M are 2/3.
Both fit my skinny minny son!.

I suppose if you're gifted with a sewing machine you could always customise some normal underpants.

Come to think of it on the WAHM mall i'm sure theres a lady who make pads that you put in a bit like sanitary pads!.
