Let's talk about the post breastfeeding boob

Stopped nursing DD (15mo) a few weeks ago. We went from 3 feeds a day to cold turkey so had to express / use cabbage leaves to give relief to the sheer agony of engorgement but now I'm pretty sure I'm not making milk anymore and let's me honest...im depressed by my tits!

It's seems no one seems to talk about the post breastfeeding boob so I'm looking for some reassurance it gets better, with DS he stopped feeding when I was pregnant so I had all the fun of pregnancy boob changes and didn't notice any problems then.

Anyway.. So my problem is they were small to begin with but now they're definitely smaller and 'deflated' and I'm left with leathery sticking out permanently erect nipples that I hate.

Does it get better in a few months or is this my lot for life? I will be so sad if I'm stuck with these horrible boobs for life!

It gets better - never fully back to youth, but definitely not saggy and deflated forever! Give your body time to recover from the amazing job it’s been doing.

Two saggy pancakes here following with interest!!

I stopped breastfeeding about 5 months ago and have just started liking my boobs again. I literally cried about it after I stopped because they looked so flat and saggy and I've always liked my boobs!
They are not as elastic as they were but they look fuller and rounder now.

@TooManyAnimals94 you give me hope! I know I can't expect them to be as nice as they were (I also liked my boobs even though they were small) but hopefully they will be better than this!

I think this is another one that's genetic, like stretch marks. I have big boobs (E before preg, F now) and bf my kids for a year each. Boobs are fine, a little fuller but still round and not saggy.

I definitely think you need to give it a while to settle down, especially as you stopped bf suddenly.

TooManyAnimals94 · 06/10/2022 21:21

It's really hard. I'm not vain but I always felt quite confident about my body but pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding have given me so many hang ups.
I do feel better than I did though so hope that's the same for you xx

I breastfed three children for 5.5 years in total, mine have never recovered. They are much smaller, not full, and lower. Sad times.

blublub · 06/10/2022 21:25

My boobs changed shape. I bottle fed my first and they were back to normal relatively quickly. 8 years later, another baby and breastfed for 18 months and now over three years later, they are saggy and just look deflated still. And flat, the silhouette has changed completely. Sorry!

jamsandwich1 · 06/10/2022 21:26

I was the same as you, pregnant when I stopped first time so didn’t notice anything. It’s been about 8 months since I stopped feeding now. They are definitely lower and less full but tbh with a good bra they’re passable! I went to get measured a couple of months after I stopped and felt a lot better afterwards!

YukoandHiro · 06/10/2022 21:27

Apparently it takes over a year to recover. I've been either bf or pregnant for almost six years now, and they are so flat and droopy. Lord knows what they'll look like when I'm finally done.

Littlemissprosecco · 06/10/2022 21:28

Breast fed three babies for 18 months each.
let’s not talk about the boobies!!
Hubby still great though, doesn’t matter to him

Vallmo47 · 06/10/2022 21:31

I breastfed for two years, 9 years ago nearly. I don’t even remember when it improved, but it did improve. I remember saggy, sad boobs for a year or two maybe… I wish I could be more helpful but it was a gradual process if you know what I mean. I’ve recently lost four stone and my boobs and belly look sad again! I think it’s time that will help with things like this. Don’t worry. :)

Volhhg · 06/10/2022 21:32

Went back to normal after a year or so

BigSidLittleSid · 06/10/2022 21:40

Mine lost so much fullness and definitely hung lower post breastfeeding, didn't really recover much. Pg again now and have temporarily regained some fullness but now my nips are massive.

Fully expect I'll be wishing for a boob job this time next year 😭

Poseidensgrumpyneighbour · 06/10/2022 21:48

My DC are both secondary age now so this is going back a long while but my (albeit v small) boobs came back after a period of post BF deflation. Maybe not quite the same as pre-DC but almost. Other thing to consider is that you might have lost some weight through BF, which will make the boob thing worse… anyway, do t despair I’m sure they will be different in a few months time. In the meantime, get a really good bra fitting
