Looking for wacky, poignant, baffling queries from little ones. I'm doing research for a nonfiction book.

How can there be anything three dimensional? the fourth dimension is time, if it doesn’t exist in time it doesn’t exist.

This is the philosophical conundrum known as Wittgenstein’s Beetle. If he couldn’t answer the question then I’m not surprised you can’t!

Haha I actually referenced the colour conundrum in my first philosophy essay as an undergraduate! Great question 😂

No. Because you look like me.

CheesyBeans1 · 07/10/2022 00:12

But that might be why you adopted me.

When birds think do they think in words or in tweets?

StarCourt · 07/10/2022 00:13

DD when she was 5 'if you have a cat who's the winner?'

I worked for 25 years in publishing and never knew a creative writer who explored a research assistant to come up with ideas. Go and develop your own creativity.

She clearly states this is for a nonfiction book, so not a creative writer. Maybe next time try engaging your brain before letting the bitchiness out.

Am I going to die? When am I going to die? How am I going to die? And....how long will I be dead for?

Even nothing is something, isn't it mummy?

3-yo: if carrots make you grow, and you need to be big to go to school, then since [friend] never eats her carrots, will she never go to school?

I had similar - 'if I need to eat my food to get big and strong, why does Daddy still eat? He's already big and strong'

UnalliterativeGeorge · 07/10/2022 08:00

DS7 "if water makes metal rust and it rains on cars how come they don't rust away?"

crazybunnygirl · 07/10/2022 09:28

Orange the fruit came first. We didn't used to have a word for orange, red was used for both. Hence Robin red breast which are actually more orange.

Morning everyone. Just to let you know that we've had a few reports about this thread. It's just that we don't allow these sort of requests on our talk boards, we're afraid, OP. If you have a media inquiry, please get in touch with our press office at [email protected].

That said, it's turned out to be a lovely thread (and a very nice idea for a book in fact 😉) and we're going to leave it standing so that MNers can continue to enjoy it.

Thanks all. Smile

3 year old pottered into the kitchen and said 'mummy, do you lack meaning?'
(She was parroting woman's hour on the radio but it was very funny).

About a fizzy drink:

’Are the bubbles the drink’s thoughts?’

RegularWithANameChange · 07/10/2022 19:19

DS is 14 and hasn't stopped asking questions for about 10 years, but the ones that stick out:

Which animal is most musical?

Why does hair cry? (Turns out I was sweating round my hairline).

Of 'aliens' Do little green men photosynthesise and if so, do they get thinner if they wear clothes?
