I just don't know anymore what to do about my toddler. He isn't doing that Great at the moment. He joined nursery a couple of months ago and since then is just very irritable and bad tempered.

So I don't know if this is related but one thing that concerns me hugely is how much he eats. He eats more than my five year old. What's more worrying is that he'll scream and cry and get angry till we give him food. Even if he's just eaten a massive portion. It seems like he almost doesn't want to do anything else.

He's also Having massive amounts of milk (between 300 - 500ml a day)
and since he's started eating so much he often poos in the middle of the night.je often wakes up in the night and screams till I make him a bottle of milk though in spite of recently having sctisllyz actually stopped drinking milk in the night.

I don't know if he's eating out of stress or if he's just developed a bad habit. Can toddlers do comfort eating? I thought kids this young naturally regulated their eating according to what they need.

He's on the 95th centile for weight (having been born on the 75th) and about the 70th for height.

I'm worried about

  1. His weight and health
  2. The reason why he is eating so much. Is it stress?

What do I do?

Thanks so much everyone!!

I'd make a go appointment and explain everything. Maybe they will refer you to a dietary specialist (no experience sorry) but definitely worth looking into

*GP appointment

Thank you I'll do that. I think I'll start keeping a log of hiw much he's eating. Dh is very worried about autism. Could this be an early sign of autism?

My 17 month old Ds would graze all day if he could (I remember my 3 year old DD doing the same thing when she was around the same age) .
He constantly walks out into the kitchen and points at cupboards where he knows there is food. He will shout for banana or toast. If I say no he will then ask for a drink - once he has got me into the kitchen to make him a drink he then starts screaming for food again - I'm secretly very proud that he is learning different ways to try and achieve his goals 😁 distraction with toys/books/going for a walk sometimes helps but not always.

He definitely eats more than my 3 year old but I do think that's normal. Toddlers have a lot of learning and growing to do. He doesn't wake up at night but he does wake up early (5am) and demands breakfast immediately. He won't tolerate me bringing him into bed with me to have a cuddle in the mornings which is a shame.

Definitely see a gp to discuss your concerns and monitor his weight, but you might find he has a sudden growth spurt. Is your little one teething. Im sure my ds demands food more often when his teeth are sore as it seems to help him to chew on something (he won't use teethers).
