6mo feeding more at night than day

Hi all

Hoping for some advice or if anyone else has experienced similar.

My 6Mo gets very distracted when bf during the day but feeds really well at night. He has been like this since he was 2mo.

He has a bit of silent reflux which isn’t as bad now but I think I’ve got us in to bad habits where he snacks during the day and takes his main calories at night.

He has started solids now but just little bits of veg at the moment.

It’s affecting his sleep too - he has 3-4 only short day naps and then wakes 3 times between 7-7 to feed.

I had just been feeding on demand and giving him milk whenever he needed it as he started to drop a little weight at 5mo but now I’ve started counting his feeds - he has 8 over 24hrs and the day ones are really short and distracted.

Any help is appreciated!

I have a distractable 7 month old so I feel your pain!
have you tried feeding in a quiet room? No other people, fewer distractions. Give him a small toy or your hand to play with if he’s waving his arm around.
other than that, I relatch him a good few times if he comes off before giving up.

it’s all perfectly normal I’m afraid , a phase like at other. Mine feeds loads at night especially if we’ve been out anywhere in the day (more distractions, less feeding).

Thanks for your reply hope it is a phase!

You need to reverse cycle - basically feed in a quiet room, no distractions, dark, calm, boring.

Reduce the length of nighttime feeds by a minute or so at a time while offering longer ones during the day

This is all really normal, honestly don't stress about it. As long as he's having 3 or 4 "good" feeds of that 8 then a few short distracted ones are fine. It might not be milk that is affecting sleep - teeth / developmental leap. So much happens around this time.

Thanks both, some good tips!
