Possible CMPA?

First time mum here so a bit clueless!

My son suffers from silent reflux (medicated - omeprazole) however recently I have been suspecting he may have CMPA as he has many of the symptoms.

Can anyone tell me if this poo is ‘mucus like’?

How old is he and what is he eating? Breastfed? It looks okay. If formula fed or eating solids, I’d be concerned. My DD had CMPA and her stools were more watery, stringy and smelled like vomit. (But everyone’s different.)

He is 12 weeks and is breastfed.

The first picture looks like it may be v slightly mucusy but could just be the angle of the picture and because the nappy isn’t full, the 2nd one doesn’t look mucusy at all.

I’ve had a CMPA baby and all poos were v mucusy - looked like you’d blown your nose on the nappy (like gloopy snot) mixed with a bit of poo and blood. He literally didn’t have one normal poo. i don’t think this baby has CMPA nappies.

I wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at that nappy-what are the other symptoms though?

Hjmmummy · 29/09/2022 07:17

He’s been having diarrhoea, reflux, back arching, vomiting, wheezing, cough, restlessness, poor sleeping, lots of wind, very upswing and crying during feeds for a number of weeks now.
As well as this, there is also a family history of CMPA.

I wouldn't say that was mucusy, the second one just looks like normal diarrhea. My DS would have big obvious blobs of stringy mucus all through it and it would smell very strongly of vinegar.

The other symptoms you've listed could just be down to the reflux. Lots of babies have these symptoms and it's not always necessarily down to anything other than an immature gut.

The only thing to try is if you are breast feeding, cut out dairy and see if it makes a difference.

I agree with the poster above, I don’t think those symptoms are a strong indicator for CMPA. My baby was breaking out in hives after feeds that contained dairy and pooing mucus/blood 10-15 times a day.

Sounds like you have an unsettled newborn with reflux.

@Hjmmummy I know this is a very old post so a long shot but just wondering what your outcome was in the end? My daughter has the same as your first picture and all the silent reflux symptoms you described and we are really struggling at the moment :( questioning CMPA. Just wondering how your baby ended up getting on/ anything that helped?
