Age for first haircut?

My 10 month old has a fair amount of hair, which is now growing over his ears and doesn’t look terribly neat. I mentioned to my MIL that I was thinking of taking him for a haircut and she seemed to think 10 months was quite young. In fairness I don’t think my SIL took either of hers until they were 18 months or so.

So just wondering, at what age did yours get their first haircut? Having done a terrible job with my husband’s hair during lockdown it will definitely be a hairdressers job rather than a DIY for me!

DS was about 10.

I did offer, but he always said no.

DS1 was 8 weeks old, his hair was growing all over the place in a mess. I don't understand this weird thing of waiting a certain amount of time before a haircut. It really depends on how much hair your baby has.

At 10 months and indeed 18 months, my DD was still practically bald. I think she was 4 or 5 before she needed it!
Her sister had more hair, but not masses. I think she was 3.

DS is 8 months old and going for his third hair cut today. He had his first one at 18 weeks old and his first cut with the clippers 3 weeks ago.

DD however had hardly any hair and was 18 months old before her first trim. Just depends on the child. My friend is our hairdresser and she did say DS has been the youngest person she's cut.

Yep - I was surprised that she seemed to think there was a ‘normal’ age for a first haircut - I’d presumed it depended on how much hair they have and whether they’ll sit still long enough for someone to chop it off…

I had to trim the hair around my son's ears at around 7 months; his wasn't particuarly thick. I can't comprehend waiting until 18 months for a trim!

First ds when he was about 3 months, and had 3 full haircuts by the time he was 1. My ds2 had a small twin at about 9 months and again at about 1yo, but he has so much less hate.

Both my Dd's had full heads of hair when born.
Had their first haircuts about 6 weeks 🤣
