Feelings of such anger - normal?

My 22 month old is really challenging at the moment, and I bear the brunt of it. I had to take him off something the other day and I was literally bracing myself as I knew I was going to be hit and have my face grabbed etc

But it’s the screams I find so triggering … when he screams at me I get this big surge of anger. I don’t ever do anything about it, I don’t hit or shout but sometimes I imagine / fantasies about both.

Is this normal? Or so I need help?

Yup!

Think about it, in any other situation where you were being physically attacked and screamed at, it would be categorised as abuse. It's a horrible thing to go through, it triggers physical and emotional reactions that you have no control over, and it takes every single bit of your self control and parental instincts not to retaliate. What you're experiencing is completely normal. This is a horrible phase of toddler development and it's miserable until it passes.

Do not be afraid to put him down and walk away if he hurts you. You do not have to take it.
