Hi all

FTM here and after managing to avoid the bloody thing for 2.5 years, on Fri both me and DH tested positive. We have an 8 week old baby girl and she has been poorly also and I’ve been worried sick about her.

Her symptoms started with congested nose and throat (she makes this snorting sound and sounds quite phlegm-y). I’ve been spraying her nose with saline solution as advised by GP but on day 3 today and I see no improvement. I don’t know what to do to help her throat as it seems it’s bothering her and every time I put her down she coughs a little or gags a little. I’ve raised the head side of her cot (again on advice of GP) but not sure it’s making a difference.

On Friday, she slept really really poorly, I think 10-11 h in total, she was crying a lot and feeding a lot. Then yesterday, she slept quite a bit (15-16 h) but ate less (still plenty of wet and dirty nappies throughout the day though). Then today, she is quite sleepy and lethargic, not eating much at all, nappies are still ok so far, but she also seems to poo as soon as she’s had anything to eat (I think diarrhea? Not sure what to look for! Looks as usual but more liquidy and also had two dirty nappies (like proper poonamies) in the span of 1 h. She also vomed a little - as soon as she had a slightly bigger feed. Today she is not interested in food, I keep offering but she stays on the boob 2-3 min and dozes off. If I make her a bottle, she would only have 10-30 ml, whereas usually she has 80-100 ml.

I am so worried about her, I just want her to feel ok, breath easily, sleep and eat. I called 111 for advice and currently waiting on a call-back from GP.

If anyone has been through this with such a small baby, or your baby has had similar symptoms, please reassure me that she will be fine! 🙏🏼🥹😭

Aw, I'm so sorry. How are you feeling with it?

Have you got a nose sucker thingy? They are really good.

Sounds like you're doing everything right, hopefully she's through the worst of it now and just needs to sleep it off. Lots of cuddles, keep attempting to feed. If she's only doing a few minutes at a time she'll be getting a lot of the watery stuff so she'll be hydrated but keep an eye on that if it continues.

Hope you all feel better x

I'm so sorry -- that must be really stressful. FWIW my 12-week-old has had about 4 different viruses brought home from nursery by his big sister, poor thing. Haven't tested for COVID but we're all under the weather this week so I think it might be 😫

I make sure to do saline and NoseFrida (the best nose aspirator as far as I'm concerned) 3x per day when he's congested, as well as using paracetamol when he's really fussy and it's affecting his sleep (likely from aches and sore throat). He has so far had a few hard nights but come through all the colds quickly enough.

Now that she's 8 weeks she should be able to have Calpol 2x pet day which may help her sleep.

It sounds to me like you are doing absolutely everything right. Please don’t be alarmed if they ask you to bring her in, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they think something is seriously wrong. In my experience they are very cautious about tiny babies.

Just keep monitoring her, especially nappies. Lots of sleep and snuggles. Keep offering her a feed whenever you can.

Thanks all for responding!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

i have the Nose Frida and have been using it, which helps her nose, but not the stuff on the back of her throat.

I will continue to monitor nappies, and offering her food (BF / formula), hopefully she gets her appetite back and fights this off quickly! 🥹

I am…ok, thank goodness I seem to be 1-2 days behind DH - he was quite poorly Fri and Sat, but today is feeling almost normal, whereas I took care of the baby the past two days so he can rest, but now I’m trying to get some rest and he’s taken over the baby duties. My main complaint is slight fever which is making me feel really cold, slight cough/scratchy throat and very tired (but tbh don’t think that one’s ‘rona’s fault).
Honestly, I am not at all concerned about me, just want baby girl to feel better and be back to her normal self! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
