Hi, my 2 year old had a cough 5-6 days ago went to gp and they said it’s viral but they still have anti bitoics if cough gets worst I should give it to him.
its been 3days since he has no fever and has has been eating and drinking well but his cough is chesty and won’t go away.
do I give him the anti biotics or contact gp again? Just confused on what to do

It takes 2 weeks for a cough to go. If he is otherwise healthy and his only symptom is a cough I wouldn’t give him antibiotics.

If he's wheezing or coughing all night I would take him to A&E to have his O2 levels checked. My daughter had a few cough-y viruses when she was 2 and after a particularly bad one that wasn't clearing up, I took her to the GP who sent me to A&E and she was admitted as her O2 saturation was far too low. This happened twice and then they put her on an inhaler. She's 3 now and all better, no more inhaler either.
