4.5yo gets frustrated with failures

My 4.5 son started getting very frustrated recently whenever he can't do something well whether when playing or doing anything else. He goes then to say I am not good at this, I lost, I am not the best, I ve done it wrong etc

This is something new in his behaviour started about 6-8wks ago. In the past he would just have another go but now he gets properly frustrated and angry. I am not really sure how to manage it. I tried to explain to him he just needs to keep trying, gave some examples when mummy or daddy failed few times but then learnt etc but he is not getting this at all and I don't know what else to do. Is it just a phase age related?

Telling him is too abstract for his age. The best thing you could do is show him you and his dad failing and then continuing to try or modelling the better, more positive response.

It'll require a little forced play-acting but seeing and living it will be way more impactful for him.
