Possible sleep regression..please help!

Hi everyone first time mum here. I have a 5 and a half mo who was waking up once for a feed. To add context, even if I tried dream feeding he would not take it so assuming he was full and would sleep the one portion of the night before another feed.

The last couple of days he has been up every 2 hours. I have been struggling with sleep too. He cries and will not settle unless I give him milk and will take 2 to 4 ounces. He is teething as well and has been for ages, I use the jel and powders.

I am struggling as I don't know how to support my baby. Is this sleep regression? Or is he genuinely hungry? For more context he has around 5 feeds in 24 hours and they will vary between 5 to 6 ounces per feed. He has a little bit of porridge in the morning as well as we have started weaning.

Also to add, his daytime naps have gone out of the window at the same time. So he went from taking a nice 1.5 to 2.5 hour nap then a little nap, to napping 30 minutes the whole day? He just refuses.

Any advise is much appreciated, thank you!

5 feeds in 24hrs is not very much at all, and those aren't very big bottles either - I'd suggest he's hungry and feed him more.

He refuses to feed more, has always been a struggle. Consulted doctor multiple times who said his weight gain is fine so they are not concerned.

Will try!

I don't have any advice really, but my DD has been waking up every 1-2 hours since she was 4 months old, she's now 6,5months and no end in sight. I initially thought it was sleep regression, then she got her two bottom teeth, but nothing has changed...

This sounds like sleep regression (waking every 2 hours at night, shorter naps in the day).

Ours hit at 4mo (now 6mo) and hasn't improved yet. Having read up on biologically normal infant sleep I have zero interest in CIO/CC so will continue to support DS back to sleep when he wakes.

I'd try and get an extra bottle into him in the day if possible. Are you feeding on demand or every x amount of hours?

SunshineAndSummer · 17/09/2022 14:10

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond. I feed on demand as he does not take a whole bottle at once, I try to make sure milk is available at all times as he takes however much whenever he wants, will try to feed him more!

How does he settle to sleep? Does he self-settle or do you need to do a lot to get him to drift off?

We had this waking every hour/couple of hours for two months. It was teeth, but drastically not helped by night feeds. I night weaned and the teeth (all 8 incisors over 8 weeks) finally came through, then we finally fixed his settling issue. He did start sleeping through again after that.

I have a nearly 6 month old. Her sleep was amazing until 2 weeks ago, waking every 30 mins a few nights but usually waking every 2 hours. I’ve found that most sleep regressions are due to baby learning something new and my DD just started rolling. She’s still waking in the night now but for the past 2 nights we’ve just needed to put her dummy in rather than having to spend an hour rocking her back to sleep and then her waking again within 30 mins. Wish I had some advice but I think it’s just part of parenthood 🤪. Just for reference my DD wakes between 6-7.30 naps on the school run at about 9 for an hour. Then has a longer nap after lunch then will sleep for 30 mins around 4-5. She has 6 bottles and drinks about 7oz each time. We dream feed at 11pm when we go up. Sorry I couldn’t help more, PM you ever want to chat, some times nice talking to someone when babies are the same age and your in the thick of it.

@ChildWontStopGrowing yes teeth are definitely making him uncomfortable. His bibs are soaked and he keeps trying to munch my fingers. He falls asleep as soon as he has finished his night bottle.

Some light at the end of the tunnel possibly then!!

Thank you @Foreveranxious22 !! Haha definitely joys of parenthood. I'm thinking it might be the teething as he has only been having 4/5 ounces and barely 5 feeds which is not enough!! Your LO seems to be feeding well!

Sorry I couldn’t help more 😬 I forgot to say she goes to bed 7-7.30 at the same time as her big sis. Also I’ve been up twice to put her dummy in and I wrote my previous post while rocking her back to sleep. And it’s not even 10 yet 🤦🏼‍♀️. Before you know it they’ll be off to school and you’ll miss these days. Best of luck 😘

My 8mo has been up every two hours her whole life! I don't really have anything useful to advise as I am so tired that I don't really have the energy to grapple with what some sleep training might mean.
