Can anybody help me with fuzzing out a photo?

Hello!

DD2 has got a stoma/colostomy and I've kept a photo diary of all her operations and recovery as well as all the usual growing up photos (well, she's nearly 5 months).

I've taken some photos of her with her bag on and off so she can see them when she grows up. Her reversal is next month so these are the 'before' photos. Some of them have her private area in them and I was hoping to fuzz them out like they do in all the tv programs when they're not allowed to show a logo or somebodies face. I thought it best to do this so we don't get arrested (what a sick world we live in!) and also to preserve her dignity when she gets older.

I can't seem to find a way of doing this on 'paint' at all. The only way seems to be scribbling over the area but that looks like I'm trying to make it look hairy and it just isn't suitable!

Can anybody help? Am I going to have to buy some whizzy software to do it?

Thanks in advance, PLP xxx

Don't know how to do this with 'paint' but could you just crop the picture so it doesn't have her private area in them? Would you still get all the important bits in the picture?

You could download a program called GIMP for free, which would deffo do it, BUT it is quite complicated to use as I have fouund out.

DO you have any other photo editing software? What software came with your camera?

Or a white square, less conspicuous?

PortAndLemon · 23/01/2008 22:58

If you only have Paint, I'd go for putting black rectangles over the relevant areas.

Open photograph in Paint. Select the rectangle tool (just below the straight line tool) and then the bottom one of the three rectangle options. Drag rectangle shape over the area you want to obscure.

Fuzzies/pixellation would be quite easy to do with the right software, though.

Nat1H - thats what I was thinking if all else fails!

Shrek - I'll give that a go, I'm happy to spend the time doing it and learn quickly. DH has just informed me he could install photoshop so we'll have a fiddle with that first (why couldn't he have told me that in the first place!?). The camera was a freebie a few years ago from Avon so its not exactly top notch and we lost all the bits for it a long time ago lol!

Thank you anyway! ;o)

Was just going to offer to do it for you, but realised how that might not seem like a good idea....

The way you would do it in Photoshop would be to use the 'blur' tool. Do you have anything like that in paint?

PurpleLostPrincess · 23/01/2008 23:00

Oooooh, sorry crossed posts with a few more! Brilliant suggestions, will try them all out and see what works best

Thank you again!

Oh yes, you Can download PS for a free trial. Can try to talk you through it if you need a hand.

redadmiral · 23/01/2008 23:02

Yes, I crossed posts there too.

PurpleLostPrincess · 23/01/2008 23:02

Thank you redadmiral, isn't it awful that the world is so twisted that its like that now! But the offer is much appreciated!

The only thing similar to a blur is a scribble-like thing but it literally looks like I'm putting hair all over her private parts which would be very unappropriate lol!

GIMP is basically a freebie lookalike Photoshop in case you want to go beyond a free trial. If you goog;efor it you must include the word Gnu (GIMP = Gnu Image Manipulation Program) in your search term, or you could run into problems

redadmiral · 23/01/2008 23:05

But very funny

DD1 and friend used dried grass cuttings to give themselves pubic hair aged about 4. Was hysterical.

PortAndLemon · 23/01/2008 23:06

In Photoshop you need to select the area and then either Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur or (the option I'd prefer) Filter -> Pixellate -> Mosaic.

Disenchanted · 23/01/2008 23:10

You could do white squares then type stuff in like 'this is you in hosital on jan 28th '

ect

then it doesnt look like you are just covering her bits it looks like you are doing it for a purpose,

PurpleLostPrincess · 23/01/2008 23:15

pmsl - kids do the funniest things!!

Thanks portandlemon, wouldn't have known if you'd not mentioned it and we would have been fiddling for hours!

I'm dragging DH upstairs (to his computer) to have a go at it now

I'm still unloading the shopping for a while yet. Post again if you get stuck - don't fight with DH about it
