10 month old has a ‘sticky out’ ear

Hi 😊 my 10 month old son has one ear that sticks out a bit more than the other, not by a whole lot but it’s definitely noticeable, and I just want to get peoples opinions on whether it’ll sort itself out or if it’ll need correcting? Or maybe even just left, I’m torn between seeing it as a part of him and nothing to be ashamed of but also not wanting him to be bullied when he’s older!

he did have a flat head as a baby (on that side mainly) but not sure if that’s related’

My now adult child has similar and in their case it didn't flatten on its own. That ear is missing a fold I think. I never wanted to make it an issue and thought that if they want to explore cosmetic correction as an adult I would support that. So far they haven't mentioned that.

When they are newborn you can just put a band round their head like a hairband and it rights itself but I'm not sure this will work at 10 months. I'm surprised the HV didn't suggest it. A quick Google brought this up and claims to work for under 6s. As an idea of what they are.

My dd has two protruding ears. Tried otosticks...doesn't work.
We might try to get them corrected when she is around 5...her ears are pretty much sticking out at a 90 degree angle and I don't want her to be bullied. Kids can be very mean.
I know that other people think the child should decide when they are older but I have also heard of people who wished their patents would have taken the initiative to get it sorted.
It is a tricky decision.

We’ve just fitted EarBuddies to our newborn to correct a couple of ear shape issues, and one sticky out ear. However, the older they are the longer you need to splint for. Would take several months at your son’s age. Worth having a look?

Having said that, we don’t know if they’ve worked yet!

Ah! My 8 yr old has similar, but once they have proper hair you don't really notice! It's just him isn't it. I quite like it!

Oh and yes if he had a flat head I expect that it will get better over time anyway. Maybe ask your GP what they think.

My ear is like that, didn't realise it was something to "correct"! I'm glad my family didn't make it into a big thing. Nan called it my "happy ear".

Amazingly, it hasn't held me back (except on windy days when the gusts catch it and I'm propelled viciously in a circle until somebody comes along to help me...)
