3.5 year old struggling to settle at nursery

My 3.5year old boy started nursery earlier in the year. He goes to a nursery attached to a school so he was there for one term. After a month or so he seemed to settle and whilst he would want some reassurance, kiss and cuddle before h le went in, the staff said he eventually didn’t get upset in the day and seemed to be enjoying himself. He also didn’t look upset when we picked him up.

He has been off over summer and returned to nursery (pre school) last week and unfortunately he has been quite upset before school, ok in the car ride there but then really quite upset at drop off. Whilst he is there the staff said that he has been unsettled and upset most of the day. I am going to probe them about what extra support they are going to give him but wondered if anyone has any advice on this?he is currently going three mornings a week.

It's because he was off for the summer. He'll need some time to resettle.

I think it's really normal for them to be unsettled after a long time off over the summer. My little one takes a few days to settle any time we take even a short holiday or weekend away! Don't worry, he will get there eventually!

Agree it's because of the summer holidays.
He'll be ok once he's found his feet again

Summer holidays are a very long time when you're only 3! He'll have to resettle again I imagine, especially if he's only going 3 mornings a week.

Thank you everyone. He went in this morning and his dad dropped him off. He was still a bit unsettled and has been on an off yesterday.
im hoping time and getting back into the routine will help!
