Breathing in my 5 year old

My son has come home from school very quiet, not eaten a lot and very full of cold. He's fallen asleep at 6:40 tonight and I have gone up to him as he is very loud with his breathing. His belly is really up when he breathes out. I have a video but it won't let me post. Is this normal for a boy with a cold. Seems like he is really struggling.

Is he sucking his belly in under his ribs when breathing?

Valhalla17 · 13/09/2022 19:11

Call 111. Better to be safe OP.

It's more the opposite his belly is really going outwards and he is really unsettled, temperature, not eating a lot and sounds like he has smoked 100 cigarettes.

If you’re ever worried about breathing it doesn’t hurt to call 111. They’ll talk you through what to watch out for. My youngest had RSV/bronchiolitis this time last year as a tiny baby and we’re just starting to get into the season for it. We were told to watch out for tummy sucking under the ribs, the skin at the bottom of the neck sucking in, and/or pauses in breathing. The advice may be different for an older child but these are certainly warning signs that they could be having difficulty.

search Croup videos - does it sound like that?

Call 111

Mumma29 · 13/09/2022 19:37

It doesn't sound like the noise of croup. Thank you for your suggestions. I don't think his ribs are sunken in just seems like he is very mucusy and has a weird smell in his breath like an illness smell
