10.5 month baby gone off solids

Hi all, looking for some advice re my 10.5 month DS.

For a couple months hes been really good eating 3 meals a day, self feeding/BLW. I make a variety of things for him like omelette, scrambled eggs, peanut butter on toast, sandwiches, spag bol, pasta meals, noodles etc. all with a side of veg or fruit. He normally eats everything including the fruit/veg.

The past few weeks hes gradually gone off all his sides of fruit and veg and this week or so he has gone off nearly all food apart from cucumber (his fave) and some spoon fed food like yoghurt. Even then i have to smear the food on his mouth for him to realise he will have some of it. Any finger food gets chucked on the floor. I tried an Ella pouch earlier and he seemed happy having most of that.

I've heard babies go through phases but just wanted advice from other parents that have experienced this around similar age and did their babies end up fussy or loving food again in future?

If DS doesnt want his food shall i offer purees instead so he at least eats something in the day? Or do i just leave it? I feel guilty when he doesnt want any of his food.

He still has 4-5 bottles of milk a day. He did drop to 3/4 bottles last month but he has recently been wanting more milk.

Mine has days of eating a lot or barely touching anything, eldest was the same and it's usually teeth related. We did a mix of BLW and mush which they've both enjoyed. I'd just keep offering, they'll eat if they want to eat (this obviously applies if it's just food they're off and not otherwise unwell)

Thank you! Good to know its happened to others. Will keep offering, just feel bad when he doesn't eat anything but i guess its on and off like you say. Hopefully his appetite will come back soon Smile

Was going to post the exact same as this happened with my DD at 10.5 months. She is fine now at 13 months (although she still chucks food I'm afraid!)

Thanks both @TheSmallestOneWasMadeline. It could be teething, he keeps chewing his fingers at the moment and also sometimes chewing our clothes when we carry him! No sign of any new teeth yet though and hes sleeping ok atm (fingers crossed)

Mine went off food when they had an ear infection. Is he pulling at his ears at all or restless when you lie him down

Why are you smearing food onto his mouth? If he doesn’t want to eat then forcing him or pushing it onto him is never going to help the situation. There is more to BLW than just giving them food to feed themselves, the whole point of BLW is allowing them to listen to their own feelings towards food and feeling full or not wanting to eat/how much etc

it could be teething, change of taste etc. all you can do is keep offering the food and if he wants it then he will eat it

Imagine if you didn’t want to eat something and your partner started to rub it onto your mouth - it’s hardly going to help you want it is ot
