Baby fell off the bed…

So my daughter at the time of this happening was 5 months and a week old! She had just learnt to roll..not very well. Anyway I put her on the bed and turned around to get a nappy and she’d rolled and slipped of the side of the bed. Hitting carpeted floor head first. Now the thud she made when hitting the floor made me burst into tears. She cried for around a minute was fine after being comforted. No signs of anything wrong, no concussion or anything. I never took her to be seen now I have major bad mum guilt! Our bed is around 1/2 foot/2 foot high. This was now 3 weeks ago.

in the past 2 weeks she’s had a ear infection and also been in hospital for a UTI. So had multiple checks of her breathing etc done. She’s now on the mend with antibiotics.

but I feel so bad and keep thinking does she have a bleed on the brain etc! I mean she’s a big girl. Right chunk! But I feel horrible for not getting her seen now!

are their any signs of a bleed to the brain? I don’t want to Google as it will only give me major anxiety.

she’s never banged her head before so I’m just major concerned. I told the doctors she’d fell and hit her head and they said she’s fine visibly.

help!

She'll be fine.

If children, vomit, non stop crying, change in behaviour, fit, can't stay awake, fluid or blood from nose/ears, an open wound.
These are the main major things to look out for.

This happens a lot, I co-sleep and both of mine have fallen off in the night. I don't think what you describe warranted medical attention - she fell onto carpet. If you had taken her to be checked I'm pretty sure they would have just told you to observe her 48 hours.

MrsTxx · 11/09/2022 18:47

She's going to be okay, you would know yourself if something was up and if it was serious it would of cropped up by now.
Your her mother and you obviously care and worry. But your doing great and so is she!

A bleed would have made itself known weeks ago I would imagine, not 3 weeks later. I think most of us have had babies rolling of the bed at some point.

Jesus Christ

You think that's ok?

Unsafe co-sleeping like this can be deadly

MissBPotter · 11/09/2022 19:15

She will be fine. I think all mine did this once or twice. It’s horrible at the time but it’s not that far really and babies are resilient to this! I think it’s super common with bed sharing etc. Try to stop worrying about this one or you’ll drive yourself mad.

That's really not OK! If you can't co-sleep safely you need to put your babies in cots. Or at least take the mattress off the bedframe and put it on the floor.

My eight month old has rolled off the bed and sofa a few times and is completely fine. I don't know a baby who hasn't at some point rolled or flipped off something and bumped their head. Don't worry!

Heyheyitsanotherday · 11/09/2022 19:44

My mother in law refuses to believe there’s a baby in the land that hasn’t fallen off a bed or sofa! I’m sure she will be fine now, 3 weeks is a long time. Try not to worry or over think it - from the biggest anxiety fuelled over thinker ever 🤦‍♀️ Sending hugs your way xx

Alright, no need to be so rude. Like you've never made a mistake ever in your life?

What's with the nastiness?

eatyourcrustspls · 13/09/2022 10:53

My son rolled off the bed at about 4 weeks old - he turned to his side, as they do, and gravity helped him on his way. He was absolutely fine and fed straight away. I only turned my back to put a pair of knickers in the washing basket!

It happens. Main thing is they are ok. Don't fret.

Tdcp · 13/09/2022 11:06

I dropped dd at 5 months old, onto a flagged floor, I felt worse than she did I think! Don't worry, she'd have some major symptoms if she did have a bleed on the brain or anything of that nature.

Tdcp · 13/09/2022 11:07

co sleep should never involve your baby falling off the bed, fucking idiot!

Don't know who spat in your coffee this morning but you don't need to take it out on the OP!

@Tdcp @SecondsAreTheBest @Tiredmamahelp I wasn’t taking it out on the OP quite clearly I replied to @AegonT for being so blasé with her “safe” co sleeping which involved her baby falling off the bed!!

MDevane86 · 13/09/2022 13:07

It's a rite of passage into being a parent, 99.9% of parents will have had their baby fall of the bed 😀.It's a bit of a shock and a scare, as you say your DD is a chunk and definitely well padded. The next step is for them to fall down the stairs!

She's completely fine - anything serious you would have known about it!

Can I maybe recommend a floor bed? We moved into a mattress on the floor on slats when little one started rolling. He fell off maybe 2/3 times but because we were so close to the floor, he didn't even wake up. It would be a lot safer

I still feel guilty about the time my 5 month old rolled off the bed. They’re 28 now.

stillherenow · 13/09/2022 16:34

Mine fell off the bed several times. No probs !
