Nasty Rash- Help

Hi, we have been using rainbow bots on our son for 10weeks (he is 12 weeks old) and until about two weeks ago have had no problems, then a blotchy red rash started to appear -particularly around the edges of the nappy and base of tummy. Our GP informed us that it was not nappy rash, but was being caused by the cloth nappies - he offered no other remedy other than suggesting moving to disposables! We have since tried using sudocrem, calomine lotion and vaseline (not together) but nothing is working. We dont want to give up on cloth after making a large investment but dont know what else to do. All advice would be greatly appreciated.

cut down on the soap poweder/liquid used (can boost up cleaning power by using soda crystals), put an extra rinse on the nappies, and see if that works.

I'd agree. Because of the location of the rash, I'd suspect the naps too however you won't have to bin them and revert to disposibles - so don't worry. Maybe a hot rinse to clear any residue of old powder, see how that works then try a gentler one with the next wash. My son had the odd blotchy rash like this and I'm also using cloth. It always vanished within a few days and have remained using the same powder. Good luck.

you only need about 50% of the soap powder you would normally use- really! We used to do a cold rinse first to get the urine etc out, then wash at 40 with reduced soap, then another cold rinse at the end.

Our 9 month old got a similar sounding rash below his belly button. Drapolene sorted it out within 48 hours. Good luck.
