3yo with flaky/scaly scalp - hair loss

I noticed a while ago my 3 yo has a dry and scaly scalp on the top of their head. I didn’t worry too much and just tried to give it a bit of a scratch with my nails when washing their hair (once to twice a week)

I noticed this evening during a cuddle the large scales & began gently pulling and a clump of hair came out 😳😳

I was only very gently teasing the flakes away from their scalp (it wouldn’t have hurt, they didn’t even notice me doing it) so it’s not like I forced a clump of hair off their head

I immediately stopped as don’t want to cause a big bald patch on the top/front part of their hair, but I’m worried now that his whole area of hair is basically only being head on by the scales 😩

Any recommendations for shampoos or treatment? Should I be worried? Visit to GP?

image attached. There probably 10-15 of these size clumps of hair (still attached to the head but could come off as easily as this one did! Together they make up quite a large surface area of my child’s head (at the top/front - not as far as the fringe)

NB child does suffer with eczema but never had cradle cap as a baby)

thanks!

Dentinox cradle cap shampoo has great reviews. I just started it on my baby (used once) and it seems to be helping. My 3 year old still has patches of cradle cap too 😱 so I'll be trying it on her soon too.

It's fungal! Go to the GP and get some cream for it. Took my child nearly a year to grow it back when I just assumed it was ongoing cradle cap.

My DS has this too. It's cradle cap/eczema. We haven't found much that helps yet and he refuses to let me pull it off much to my annoyance.

I got rid of my six year old’s scalp scales (she looked like a lizard) with a Pourty brush and this shampoo.

My 5yo still had a bit of cradle cap until recently. I put some coconut oil on it and left it for about an hour then combed it and all the cradle cap came off, it was like magic! So far its not come back. Hair did come out with it but my DC has very thick hair so it wasn't too noticeable. I think it blocks the hair follicles so new hair won't actually grow through until you get rid of it, but once the scalp is clear it'll grow back. Just make sure you use oil to soften it before combing it out, if you just pull it off you can make the scalp sore.

Thank you, I’m going to try this, I’m just really worried about them a big bald patch 😫
