School trousers for short legs

My 4.9 year old starts school next week and all the trousers I’ve tried on him are far too long. Is this just par for the course or can I find some for shorter legs? The M&S trews fit round the waist but are about 4 inches too long. My mum would normally take them up but she’s in hospital right now so I’m scrambling around for a last minute replacement. I’d appreciate any help, thank you!

Sorry, I can't help with the buying option, but it's really really east to take up trouser legs.

You can even do it with an iron and wundaweb if you don't sew (but if sewn, you can let them down if he shoots up before going up to the next body size). I think Tescos stock wundaweb, as does John Lewis and lots on Amazon

All you need to do is get him to try them on, fold up (outwards) to measure how deep the turn up needs to be. Then you turn them inside out and fold inwards by the amount you measured. Then either sew into place, or put wundaweb inside the turn up and iron it.

If you're really desperate, you can use duct tape to fix it temporarily until you can loose your DMum on them

Most school trousers have adjustable waists so you may find the next size down fits.

DS is 6.5. He is still in age 4-5 trousers and shorts. The waists are pulled in to the second tightest bit of the adjustable elastic and the leg length is just right at the moment.

He was 4.5 when he started school and in age 3-4. Most supermarkets go down to that size for school based pre-schools and the elasticated adjustable waists give them a lot of flexibility.

Shortening is much easier than adding length. Buy what fits in the waist and adjust to fit!
