My 5yo was talking about having a brother or sister today. I was quite open and told him that I can't because my body doesn't work very well.
He then proceeded to ask how babies are made. We are quite open with this stuff so I reminded him of the baby making section in his usborne biology book. It shows the daddy machine putting it in the mummy machine and sperm travelling from one to another.
The conversation went like this
Me - Remember it shows you in your body works book? The mummy and daddy machines?
DC - Yes. Like love?
Me - Yes, it is love but a different kind of love
DC (looks at husband) - You need to give mummy more love!! More love!!
DC - If you keep loving mummy then mummy will have a baby. Give her a cuddle and love her!
DC then kept on to my husband about giving me more love and lectured us on the matter. Needless to say we found it all quite funny and innocent.
How have your children asked you? And what did you tell them?
