Travel question - child hold baggage on plane

Hi everyone, We are flying to Portugal later in the week with ryanair and we're hoping to make use of the 2 free items in the hold that come with an infant seat.

We are only taking a buggy but no longer have the travel bag : can we just put this in a red gate check bag but check it in with the cases?

Also how closely do they check/how strict are they? Could I put some nappies etc in with it?

I'm sure it wouldn't matter what kind of bag it is. Do you already have the red bag? You could use it inside out so the writing isn't visible. Or look at universal travel bags on amazon.

I've never done it but I have heard people pad them out with nappies etc! I think they do have a max weight allowance to stop people taking the piss but you could get away with some.

I’m not sure about checking the pushchair in as we have always taken it to the gate with us and then put it in a pushchair bag at the gate? No reason why you couldn’t put nappies in it at that point as no one is checking. There is a weight limit I believe which would only be apparent if you checked it in I guess. I was panicking our pushchair would be refused as it was over the weight limit but because it went to the gate they don’t check the weightx
