Switching car seats for fussy baby?

My DS(8 weeks) absolutely hates his car seat and wails to the point of hyperventilation during most car rides. Needless to say we don't go out much other than the nursery run for my DD(3). I am wondering if it's worth it to switch car seats to try and resolve this, and if anyone has recommendations for a car seat their fussy baby liked? We currently use the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix which my DD loved until she was 12 mos and grew out of it. DS hates it, and cries the moment I put him in.... Please help!

I think all baby carriers are quite similar. Some children just seem to hate car seats. Before you go spending lots more money, maybe see if a friend or family member has one you can borrow to see if it makes any difference.

I wouldn’t bother personally unless you have cash to burn. Lots of newborns hate the car seat/car journeys. I think it’s something you just have to give time.

My DD did get on slightly better when she moved to the one that stays in the car ( though we never tried the newborn insert).

My daughter hated her seat and moved her to the Axkid ONE at 7 months old.
At 8 week's you would be looking at another infant seat to get a good fit or the Axkid ONE2+ or the Avionaut Sky both rear face for a long time.

I don't think it's likely to be anything to do with the seat, but I would ask around friends and family to see if you can try their seat out to see how he does in it.

Otherwise maybe try something like one of the spin seats in a shop? But it's quite common for them to dislike the car seat, and it doesn't always solve by changing the car seat. Try singing, that always seemed to help mine.

What seat is DD in now? Is she in one that goes from birth? Maybe you could try that out.

Thanks everyone, some great ideas here! I finally found the newborn wedge insert which I removed at 5 weeks when my son was just too big for it, and I've put it back in but moved all the straps up a notch. He already seems happier and I'm hoping that will resolve things enough that we can at least get through the nursery run (7 mins drive) without the drama!!

If not, I will definitely try my daughter's seat with the infant insert -- great idea!

**We also bought one of those car seat handle toys to entertain him and he does like to look at it. Plus white noise from my phone (on airplane mode). All this to drive with a baby 😱
