Best things about new babies

Hello all,

I'm pregnant with my first child and in the third trimester. I feel like I'm spending so much of my head space on preparing for birth and motherhood that I'm losing sight of the good stuff.

Would love to read through what the best bits of having a brand new baby are. Which bits did you love the most? I want to make sure I treasure every minute (or as many minutes as possible), and start getting properly excited about baby's arrival ❤️

Thank you!

God this makes me broody and I have an 8 month old sleeping upstairs. The scrunched up chest cuddles are amazing!

Can I just say that if your baby has an allergy you will miss out on all of this, so read up on cmpa now so if they show any signs you know exactly what to do. I mourn for the newborn stage that never was with dc1.

They stay predominantly in one place when you change their nappy! 😂

Best bits when they are very new are cuddling & watching them. There is something deeply primal knowing you have grown a baby and it's happy and thriving. A deep contentment.

The little fold of fat at the back of their neck. When the baby is all clean and cosy, in a fresh nappy, babygrow, cardigan and bib and you just pick them up and just snuggle them like squishy little balls. When they get that Winston Churchill face, all squashed up into you and red from where they had been leaning on you. Just the softness of the skin and the utter cuteness. Even if you've never found a baby cute in your life, your own baby will break you! My baby is 7 months now, and oh my goodness (!!!!!) the cuteness feels like it's too much sometimes. The gummy grins, the shrieks of laughter, baby's bum sticking up in the air as she sleeps. Babies are the cutest.

The smell! Sniff as much as you can OP it doesn't last forever unfortunately!

Good luck with your new baby ☺️

Agree about the smell, the crunched upness, the tiny toes. It's all very mammalian. You do a lot of sniffing, a lot of small nurturing movements, you carry them on you, rest them on you.

You will never see any person as beautiful or as fascinating.

The smell, the snuggles, the velvet head, the feet, the little sounds of ecstasy they make when feeding, when they start to smile and laugh, the way they look up at you, the little hands wrapped around your finger, their expressions. Congratulations OP.
