Are birthday return gifts a thing?

We are hosting my son's first birthday party, and quite clueless about what the norms are - do you give return gifts?
What is a reasonable gift to give?
Thank you

Confused What’s a return gift??
Do you mean a party bag/favour??
If so, then yes, it’s fairly common to give the other kids who have attended a small gift. Not compulsory though especially at this age.
And not for adults!!
Things like cheap books, bubble wands, crayons etc…

I have no idea what a return gift is. A party bag would be the norm but for older kids but it’s not like the 1YO actually has friends coming so I probably wouldn’t bother.

I agree. Party bags when children are older, not necessary for 1yos. However if you have 3-8yos attending they may well ask for a party bag at the end...

I'd say get 1 decent thing rather than plastic tat. So something like a colouring book and crayons or a book.

If there are all other 1 year olds going, I probably wouldn't bother. If there were older kids going, I would do party bags as the kids may well ask for them (learnt from experience!)
