5 month old shrieking

My 5 month old DD has recently started to squeal a LOT. Not crying, this is when she’s happy, she’ll smile and squeal soo loudly lol. She even sometimes wakes at 5am to squeal for an hour before going back to sleep, not waking from hunger as she doesn’t want a bottle when offered. Is this normal, is she just finding her voice? I don’t have any friends whose babies do this and some even have commented why is she shrieking so much! It’s really loud, like as loud as an adult could squeal!

Lol. Mine’s a shrieker. Ear splitting ones. I think it’s pretty normal. I think they just find a new sound they can do, and then they do it - a lot! He’s also discovered a weird grunting sound that he does over and over - everyone thinks he’s straining for a poo and I’m like nope it’s just this thing he does.

@PoTayToes80 Lol glad to know it’s not just us! It’s cute that she keeps doing it over and over as though she’s practicing!

@MargorieJean Oh and when you think she’s past the shrieking phase she may well return to it! Ours did shrieking, moved onto raspberries and now he’s back on shrieking again. 😆

My DD did this around the 5 month mark. It was absolutely ear splitting and constant. She wasnt sad, just excited.
It started when DH bought her a jumparoo so I blamed him.
It went on for about a month and then she stopped it.
Now shes learnt to stand and walk with her push along walker thingy and she started doing it again.
Its cute and i guess pretty normal.

@PoTayToes80 oh yes we have the raspberries too! Sometimes she takes a quick break from shrieking to blow some raspberries then back to shrieking again in the next breath!

@RedHerring24 ear splitting is correct! DDs coincided with being able to roll over. I think it was the excitement of that haha

Oh God, flashback to a nanny job where the little one was a shrieker. Her granny came to stay for a few weeks and would constantly shriek back at her 'Why Are You Screaming?! Why?! WHY?!' The baby was annoying but the granny was positively MADDENING!!

MargorieJean · 28/08/2022 21:11

@PestoPasghetti omg that sounds worse for sure lol

Hahaaaa omg yes. My son was definitely exactly like this at 5 months old 🤣

He's now 9 months and has mostly stopped, thank God. He is prone to the odd "ba ba ba BA BA BAA BAAAA" with a very red angry face, though
