Fat 10 month old DS never satisfied

He is a bit over the centile. I thought once he started crawling/standing the weight would drop off a bit. But he seems to be demanding more bottles and food than ever before.

He has one before rising, one for a nap at 10am, one after lunch at 12, one after dinner at 4pm and one to sleep at 6:30pm.

I had weaned him off night feeds or maybe 1 a night sometimes.

Lately he's been inconsolable at about 11pm until I give in and get the bottle. He also has been waking around 4am for another.

All these bottles contain 180ml (6 scoops)

He has snacks of cucumber or breadsticks or grapes between meals, and drinks about half a cup of water from his beaker.

I have tried not responding to him at night but he will cry for hours till he makes himself a complete state! DH works and even walking around holding him and singing doesn't satisfy him till he has a bottle in his hands.

Please help MN

Are you added extra calories to his food - butter/ oil/ spreads/ full fat everything etc? Babies need a crazy amount of calories for all that growing.

My very round, fully padded, forever starving 91st centile, 0 - 36 month old baby is now a sporty bean pole.

He's 10 months old...
He can't communicate with you any other way.
Feed your baby.

He needs cheese Omelettes, peanut butter on toast, thick lentil and veg soups. High calorie food. His brain is developing like crazy

The OP asked for help and has replied that she was warned by a health visitor her baby is gaining weight too quickly. He's well above the 98th centile at 10 months and 26lb. Yes in some cases of course they can drop back down the centiles when older, but in other cases there is a medical reason why children have enhanced appetite. OP I don't think you should restrict his diet without medical advice but if you're worried, you could take him to the GP.

This sounds like my baby boy who is 7 months just & 10kg.. he’s a big baby I wouldn’t say they are fat!!! It’s just how he’s developing. If he’s chubby at 10 years old then different story. Also I don’t think 180ml bottles are big…? My DS takes 240ml x4 a day plus the meals. Little boys get very lanky 5/6/7. I wouldn’t worry about his weight until he is much older!! X

He’s 10 months old. Why are you even thinking about calories?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/08/2022 07:48

I would start my dropping the after dinner bottle- move dinner to 5/5.30 and increase the afternoon snack

dancemom · 27/08/2022 07:51

Before bed snack, mashed banana maybe

PritiPatelsMaker · 27/08/2022 08:49

What centiles was he on when he was born @jewishmum?

Maray1967 · 28/08/2022 00:21

The bottles are quite small for 10 months - both of mine were on 8-9 scoops by that stage and I always offered some food as a supper.
