Transitioning from moses basket to cot

My DS is 3 months and is a brilliant sleeper sleeping from 8-4am then back to bed after a feed until 7.30am in his moses basket. However as he is so long, he really needs to transition in a cot. We have tried the last few nights with the moses basket in the cot and last night took the moses basket out. He initially slept well however at around 11pm started crying loudly at which point I put the moses basket back in which probably wasnt the right thing to do!

Any change to sleep and anything that will make him sleep less and therefore us has me super nervous. I'm worried he won't sleep at all in the cot due to it being a big space. I've not tried it for day naps yet and worry this is where we might going wrong? Any tips for a smooth transition and reassurance would be helpful!

I think trying a few day time naps first is a good idea.

I found just changing and dealing with a few shitty nights worked. My little one was fine after 2 nights

Try day naps first, or just popping him in there while you're folding washing to get him used to it.

Could you try a little nest in there at first too (for day naps)?

I also have a good sleeping baby, and get nervous every time we have to change something, but he always settles down again! There's always going to be something with them growing and changing, but it all passes.

I realise the washing thing is quite specific, I always put mine in the cot and fold my washing on the changing table!

We had the basket in the cot until just before 7 months, and kept trying without every now and again. One night it just worked so I think it was just a question of time. Hope this reassures you.
