Hi , my 6 year old smelt of BO strongly today. Anyond else have this? Do I just need to bathr her more regularly in hot weather? (Normally twice a week). What age is it normal to start deoderant (I understand she's probably way too young af the moment). Thanks

Yes at that age she should be bathing daily, twice a week in this weather isn't nearly enough.

I'm not surprised in this weather if she's only bathing twice a week. Doesn't have to be a full bath, a quick shallow one will do and use bar soap. Clean top every day.

If it concerns you and continues, even with regular washing, make an appointment with GP. This happened with dd, who was diagnosed with premature adrenarch. She's fine, but was under observation by the paediatric department of the local hospital, until she was nine. It could be a precursor to precocious puberty, so worth keeping an eye on it.

My DD started smelling strongly of BO at the age of 6 or 7. I bought her Dove deoderant and she had to start using it every day. Her white shirts and PE polo tops still ended up stained under the armpits. I didn't have this problem as a pre teen, but guessing hormones are an issue and we are all different.

Twice a week ? That's no enough. Bath time every night before bed in our house

If it continues after the hot weather you might want to mention it to the GP. My DD was the same and we were referred to an endocrinologist (specialises in hormones). DD did have a couple of other signs though (pubic hair growth and skipped up a centile in height) so I'm not sure if you'd be referred with just the one symptom. Anyway, DD was diagnosed with early adrenarche (onset of one set of hormones which normally kick in at puberty). She was monitored for signs of full-on early puberty for a few years but then discharged without any intervention.

To help with the BO in the meantime you could try a non-anti-perspirant deodorant. There are quite a few, such as Salt of the Earth and Pit Stop.

Mine are twice a week washers because of their skin, the don't have BO and they're older.

Biological washing powder if her clothes start smelling. And bar soap to wash herself.
