2 year old hates getting dressed

Posting as I'm at the far end of my tether.

DS, nearly 2.5, is throwing some mega tantrums at the moment. I can handle these calmly a majority of the time but I am really, really struggling with getting him dressed in the morning.

He will kick and scream and bawl and run away until I physically restrain him. DH and I hate having to hold him down, especially whilst he is hitting and scratching and sobbing. We've tried distraction (talking, TV, music), letting him choose new clothes with characters on that he likes, letting him try to dress himself.. nothing has worked and I wake up each morning with a sense of dread knowing what's going to happen. The same happens at bed time or if he needs to be changed during the day.

Help!

We had this phase. Dealt with it by making it super quick. No negotiations, no pleases, no chances etc, just "I'm going to get you dressed now" and then physically dressing her as fast as possible. Worked a treat. still had all the screaming and palava, but it was over in 3 minutes not 30, and she grew out of it after a month or so.
