6 month old wants to stand

My 6 month old can't roll front to back (can roll back to front) or sit unaided yet is able to pull himself to stand when he's holding onto my thumbs. When I try to coax him into a sitting potato on he just digs his heels in and forced the stand.

Is it a problem if he does stand? I only ask as he cries and shouts after a few minutes on his back and is only satisfied if he's on his feet. Also because I'm worried he'll miss on other milestones. My MIL told me if I keep letting him stand he'll get bowed legs? But I've read it's a load of nonsense but still worries me 🙁

TIA❣️

Sounds normal - we used to plonk DD in a jumperoo for five minutes a couple of times a day. Just do not leave babies in there for long periods.

Keep encouraging the other types of movement - An Activity A Day on Instagram has some great tips!

He's using new muscles and wants to explore, being on his back limits him. Encourage gross motor skills development with physical activity etc. Your MIL is mistaken, unless you're forcing him to walk by firmly moving his legs he'll be fine

Let him feel his feet but keep his weight supported, is what i was told.

Plenty of babies skip crawling

Your MIL is mistaken, it was believed that this could happen years ago. However, a quick google will help you show her that her concerns are unwarranted. Your baby wouldn't stand unless they find it comfy otherwise they would just plop back down to the floor. Standing gives a whole other view on the world for them. If you are worried at all, talk to your health visitor.

Feel like my DD has wanted to stand since she realised she had legs. Around 6/7 months, she'd whinge if she wasn't stood up so ended up getting an activity centre just so that I wasn't constantly holding her up.

People like my MIL said that she'd go straight to walking but she crawled at about 8 months and everything else is ticking along nicely.

People just like saying things about babies. I'm working on not being annoyed by it 😂

My DD was wanting to stand since before 12 weeks. I've always just supported her weight until she could do it herself.
