Baby cries whenever we try and get him to sleep

My baby is 3 months old. He’s a really grumpy little thing. He requires a lot of attention when he’s awake and we try really hard to get him to nap regularly as he gets really crabby when tired but we can’t get him to nap without him screaming.

I know he’s tired cause he yawns and gets sleepy eyes, I know he’s not overtired cause we would always try before he’d been awake 90 minutes.

Holding him against my chest and bouncing him he will fall asleep in 5-10 minutes but he screams and cries and tries to throw his little body around. I have tried holding him other ways and although he doesn’t cry, he doesn’t fall asleep! And if I just put him down then he screams bloody murder.

I am really struggling atm cause it feels like he just cries at everything (he cries in the pram, the car seat, the carrier so I can’t actually leave the house) and he wakes almost every hour at night so I am just exhausted.

Any suggestions on ways to get him to peacefully drift off appreciated! (Have tried a dummy but he screws up his face and spits it out.)

Is he very windy / has colic / reflux?

I am almost two weeks in to dairy and soy free diet btw to see if an allergy might have anything to do with his irritability (so far no improvement but know it’s early days)

@ShirleyPhallus he’s windy, yeah. We always get a good burp after a feed but still lots of farting!

not really refluxy (occasional spit up but not really) could be silent reflux and although quick to cry and whinge he can normally be settled down again with a change in activity so not really colicky either

Is this a new thing or has it been going on for a while? My little boy always has bloody horrible wind - and I have burped him within an inch if his life. Doesn't cry with it but winges a lot

It sounds silent reflux-y to me rather than colic.
I usually lift his lefts up to chest , hold for 10 seconds and release. I do this after each feed about 5 times after holding him up for about 15 mins. It helps him get some farts out before trying to sleep

It might help, might not... Worth a try?

My generally happy 6 month old has a little cry and shout before falling asleep...I just let her get on with it
