My next door neighbour is a fantastic mum but a few months ago her baby had to have a toe amputated and she's devastated. The baby was extremely grouchy for a couple of days-she tried everything but he still cried. It being winter then,he wore a babygro and so was covered up most of the time. For some reason, she hadn't bathed him one day although of course he was washed properly. It wasn't until she actually was bathing him that she saw one of his little toes had turned completely purple-it hadn't been like that just an hour previously when she'd changed him.On investigation she found a hair tightly wrapped round it,cutting off the circulation. It must have been there two days but as the colour of his toe had only just changed, the hair was blonde and there was no loose end,she hadn't seen it.The hospital where she rushed him to said the toe couldn't be saved and amputated it.She's a great mum and the hospital said it isn't unknown, she's done nothing wrong but of course she' blames herself. She's had her shoulder length hair cropped to a sort of pixie cut and double checks his feet /fingers all the time but she'll always think it her fault. It's very easily done, could happen to anyone as it's only when it's too late that colour changes noticeably so perhaps keep an eye on your own baby.

Hair ligatures can be really nasty. I wore my hair down for a few hours the other day and thankfully we noticed at bedtime that 7wo DD had one of my hairs wrapped tightly around one of her fingers. I am also blonde so it was super hard to see and it was really digging in. DH struggled to get it out. Back to keeping my hair tied back for now!

Especially an issue with post-partum hair loss too!
