Toys for 2 year old

My little girl will be turning 2 shortly and I’d love some ideas of toys to get her for her birthday and Christmas that will cover her full second year? She is my only child so every year is a new stage for me so I need all the help I can get! What did your little ones love the most?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for toy ideas for two-year-olds, we’ve recently updated our best toys for 2-year-olds page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I bought my DD a play kitchen for her 2nd birthday, absolute hit and will last for ages.

JaniceBingALing · 10/08/2022 22:18

Role play toys!

Hodan85 · 10/08/2022 22:19

Depending on budget, a toy kitchen can give good use for the full year. That's what we got DS on second birthday and he enjoyed it on and off throughout the year. Very reasonably priced options too (IKEA for example).

Following with interest as we have second birthday coming up. Toy kitchen is probably the plan but have also been thinking about a balance bike or scooter. I think she'd also love a cot and some bits for her teddies/dolls so will probably aim to get all of these between ours and grandparents gifts for birthday and Christmas

Chrissywakeuup · 10/08/2022 22:27

My 2yos wooden kitchen gets some use, the trolley we got to go with it, none. She loooves her water/sand table though and will happily play with it even in the winter months

bigbeautifulmonster · 10/08/2022 22:29

I was also going to suggest a little bike.

Eg. https://beehivetoyfactory.co.uk/shop/giraffe-balance-bike/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwrs2XBhDjARIsAHVymmQ7i3lW7jF4eAlE4ohtAOmFRrzLh7dEEEDWWWXK5aaY7j0AGTsOy8aAssYEALwwcB

Happy birthday to your little one 😊

Play kitchen is fantastic for a two year old and they play with it for years. Get a little play trolley and fake food and they're away!!

WalkingOnSonshine · 10/08/2022 22:34

I’ve been making a list for DS who will be 2 at Christmas.

Play Kitchen/mud kitchen and food
Balance bike
Dress up outfits (loves this at nursery)
Kitchen helper (he loves to cook)
Bigger garden slide
Magformers
Duplo
playdough
tool set/tool kit

He has a Brio train set which he adores.

We are also going to ask for tickets to our local soft play and zoo if family/friends ask.

Treabrea · 10/08/2022 22:41

Toy kitchen
Scooter
Magnetic tiles
Duplo
Train set

SlowSinger · 11/08/2022 06:10

I would recommend building blocks, puzzles or bikes.
Gift them something that is fun but also helps them learn.

DD has just turned 2 and her favourite presents have been: baby doll with loads of accessories, tea set, ice cream shop Wendy house, puzzles, doctors kit. She also likes duplo and playdoh. So far entirely uninterested in the very expensive scooter 🙄. So so about the train set.

We're intending on getting her the IKEA kitchen for Christmas.

MunsteadWood · 11/08/2022 08:50

Another vote for toy kitchen. The Ikea one is great or plenty of other nice ones out there. My 2yo plays with hers daily and nearly 5yo joins in too. Other hits here are wooden trolley, ride on trike, duplo.

handslikebirds · 11/08/2022 08:56

My 2 year old loves mr potato head! Megablocks and Duplo, and toy animals

findingsomeone · 11/08/2022 09:10

We didn't bother with a kitchen because she goes to nursery three days a week and they have one.

She's got lots of wooden role playing sets and a fabric teepee. For Christmas she may get a balance bike and an adjustable easel as she loves drawing and painting.

We have a scuttle bug she's not totally mastered so I felt two was too soon for a balance bike for her.

JenniferBarkley · 11/08/2022 09:17

I was going to suggest a toy kitchen too, along with

Scooter
Duplo
Leapfrog ice-cream cart
Doll stuff
Playmobil/happyland type stuff

Tiredmamaaa · 12/08/2022 12:52

Thank you everyone 💗 this has been so helpful and I’ve got loads of lovely ideas now!

I'm getting my little girl this dinning set as she loves playing with dolls and imaginary dinner party's. thetoystoreuk.com/products/lelin-wooden-childrens-2-in-1-kitchen-cooking-and-dining-room-with-pots-pans

And also got this set as for her as every time I clean around the house she takes the broom or brush and helps out so I got her own one. So cute 😍
