Blippi

Hi,

Has anyone else noticed a correlation between kids watching blippi and poor behaviour.

my sons behaviour has flipped past few months and I’ve just had a light bulb moment that he’s watched blippi past few months.

could just be me paranoid but it’s too much of a coincidence.
going to block him off YouTube and see if I notice any changes.

I think it’s the bright colours and hyper man that winds them up. I banned all YouTube type videos from 3-5 because a) they’re mostly shite and b) I had B L I P P I stuck in my head for months 😂

Try and get hime to watch Bluey, Ben & Holly, Sarah & Duck and Hey Duggee. Not because they’re morally superior or anything but they’re enjoyable for adults too. Nanny Plum is hilarious!

But yes I didn’t notice an improvement with dd after stopping YouTube.

My son gets excited over Blippi but he has actually learnt a lot from him.

Agree regarding Nanny Plum.

You're not wrong to make that observation OP. I would personally steer away from YouTube and stick to CBeebies.
There's a great educational consultant on Instagram called Jerrica Sannes.
Highly recommend following her and absorbing some of what she says about different types of shows (fast paced vs slower ones), and I think she's also ranked some of them as better or worse, depending on which are hyper stimulating.
Her own kids are screen free, and whilst that's not entirely realistic for lots of us, it's helpful to be equipped with the knowledge to ensure whatever our kids do end up watching, isn't sending them over the edge!

I fancy Blippi. The original one, not the new knock off version.

Don’t Google Blippi and the Harlem Shake then. You won’t after that!

I sound sanctimonious here but You tube videos are not good for young children to watch. As someone mentioned above CBeebies programmes are carefully made with input from child psychologists, teachers etc. Any old rubbish can be put up on You Tube.

abovedecknotbelow · 09/08/2022 22:17

I don't know Blippi my kids are older now but there was a direct correlation between their behaviour and bloody YouTube. I banned it all together, it was easier than trying to ration it.

Crochetandcoke · 09/08/2022 22:28

Not Blippi, but Peppa pig gave my daughter a really sassy attitude at one point. I think they can become overstimulated by TV or mirror the characters behaviour, or become influenced by the subtle advertising. I don't think blippi is especially to blame, though.

99.99% of arguments in my house are about bloody YouTube 😞 I think I might have to do the same

Newuser82 · 09/08/2022 22:30

My son watches Blippi on occasion (he actually isn't that interested in TV) I haven't found that it affects him in any way. My oldest son I had to stop watching Denis the menace and power rangers as he was going crackers racing round the house and generally super hyperactive.

Sux2buthen · 09/08/2022 22:30

I love blippi. Also I mean original not the new one, no offence to him.
YouTube is banned in my house but sometimes I let them have YouTube kids for a little bit, we're all allowed to unwind with a bit of mindless twaddle sometimes

bakewellbride · 09/08/2022 22:32

No noticeable change with my 4 year old and blippi but he does occasionally take his trousers off and march around in his pants saying look mummy I'm pando.

NCQuickly2022 · 09/08/2022 22:33

Not Blippi but Cocomelon.

DS would always act up after Cocomelon. Chucking things down the stairs etc. As soon as I blocked out Cocomelon he hasn't chucked a single item down the stairs. Couldn't be coincidence but this all happened around the time he was watching it.

NCQuickly2022 · 09/08/2022 22:34

Could*

evamumm · 09/08/2022 22:38

I watched an episode where he was at a soft play centre, and was encouraging kicking, punching and throwing, all things I try really hard to discourage in my boisterous 4 year old, so blippi gets a no from me I really don't like him.

bakewellbride · 09/08/2022 22:39

Also this is missing the point slightly but I find that blippi sometimes teaches kids the wrong things. He once said a spider is an insect and I had to teach my son this isn't right.

Just had to look this up! Every day is a school day 😅
