5 week old only pooping every 2-5 days?

My 5 week old is only producing dirty nappies every 2-5 days (currently on day 4). Is this normal? At what point would you contact the GP? She is combination fed (at least half formula as breastfeeding hasn’t worked out for us). We get plenty of wet nappies so don’t think she is dehydrated.

Wondered this myself

I have 3wk old and she's always been every 2-3 days apart from her first few days where there was lots but as soon as it turned mustard hardly ever
My little one seems uncomfortable with wind but my health visitor said this pattern could be normal for her and to see how she goes

I've read it can be up to a week but if it was longer than 5 days then I think I'd call GP x

Maybe call 111 for advice? I know lots of EBF babies can easily go a week or two without problem, but not sure on combi feeding. If she doesn't seem uncomfortable and poops are nice and loose then I wouldn't worry

I had this issue, I started giving some cool boiled water inbetween feeds and I started using colief drops in her milk which helps break down the milk in her tummy. Since then she's been going regularly!
Took her to the doctors and they recommended the above... they wouldn't give me anything to give her as she was too young at the time.

Also try cycling the legs and massaging her tummy 😊

Thanks all for the responses! She eventually pooped on day 4 but I’m sure it will happen again. That’s the 3rd time I’ve been on the verge of calling the GP (after other 5 day stints without poop) as she’s been an infrequent pooper since coming home from the hospital at 3 days old. I have tried bicycle legs and massage. So far her bouncy chair is the only thing that’s worked but it could just be a coincidence. I’ll look into colief too, I actually tried to get some from boots online but they were out of stock so will have to try again.

I'd get some glycerin suppositories from the GP. I was advised to use these for my little one every seven days. They give instant relief!

As an aside it turned out she had an under-active thyroid which was causing the constipation . It's not always picked up on the heel prick test after birth.

@trrk

You can get colief on Amazon.. they also do the bigger bottle online rather than the tiny bottle in shops!

What milk is she on? I switched from normal cow and gate to colic and constipation which also helped get things moving 😊

Thanks for the tip about Amazon. She is on Aptamil readymade at the moment (we plan to swap to powder once she has larger and more predictable feeds)
