Bloody breakfast room is blocked with the buggy to stop them getting in there as I've mopped the floor.....BUT still ds3 climbs over it and runs through to the kitchen which is also wet.

I picked him up and moved him from the wet floor but FGS if he wants sympathy its tough shit.

Nope Lynette - they get to know what I really think! After the "do not climb over the buggy because the floor is wet and you will slip" they would get "do you remember why I said not to climb over the buggy?" I check nothing is bleeding then remind them not to do it again!

I would give the a cuddle at the same time as telling them 'you see this is why I told you not to...' in a 'there there' voice

Well I don't know about yours dooley but mine would not "hear" the message, only the tone of voice and the cuddle!

I suppose the sympathy depends on how enraged I am by their foolishness

an accident is about to happen in our living room .. either involving a 3 year old crashing to the floor or a 6 year old having his eyes gouged out .. I have warned them

I do however make a point not to pick up my kids when they fall over ... a 'get up and rub it better' tends to suffice

I always let my child decide whether he's hurt before I jump in with sympathy.

If I've warned him loads of times and he still does it and gets hurt of course I give him a cuddle! When he's calmed down I will explain that that's why I told him not to do x.

Depends on the extent of the damage, I suppose. And the child's age.

More or less with dooley -- a cuddle followed by "what did I tell you about the floor?". Getting him to repeat it back to me at least ensures that the message has permeated his brain at some level...
