Mastitis and baby biting

Morning!

Ive had a nasty bout of mastitis the last few days, high temperature and very swollen/sore right breast. Im still feeding my 14mo at night, plus morning/evening. Im on antibiotics and it seems to be under control, the swelling/redness has gone down. Its the first time I`ve ever had it.

My DD has taken to biting my right breast. In fact, I think thats how I got an infection, as Ive got a small open wound there. So although the mastitis is easing off, feeding her is agony due to the cut. This morning when I prised her off, I could clearly see the marks of her teeth around my nipple, with one perfectly placed over the wound. I`m sitting here an hour and a half later with pain all through my breast, shoulder and chest.

I know I can just take her off if she bites (and deal with the consequences...), but why on earth is she only biting on one side? No problem at all on my left. Posture?

Im going to wean her in a couple of weeks as weve got a trip coming up and it will be easier if she has the breast for comfort.

I seem to have done something weird to the fonts, on my screen at least... Apologies if it's distracting!

My DD2 used to do that, only on the R side and I just stopped feeding from the R and just fed her from the L. She was about 2-3y, down to one feed a day.

I need to keep feeding from the right for the moment, unfortunately, until the mastitis clears up completely.

Good to know I'm not the only one though!

When DD bit me I screamed, shocking both of us, her especially. She stopped and cried. Couple more instances of this repeating and she never bit again.

I think I've been a bit slow on the uptake - the pain that I thought was the wound/mastitis was actually her sinking her teeth in and holding on, so I've been biting my lip and getting on with it. What a muppet.
