My son is eight. Hes a lovely, kind and gentle boy. Me and his dad separated when he was four but we share him equally and are on good terms.

In the past year or so my son is very down on himself. If he tries something new and he isn't good at it he stops. He will then say he is rubbish at everything. He always seems to be 10 seconds on the edge of breaking or crying if someone says the wrong thing to him. If he is told off or corrected in any way he will sulk and cry for over an hour.
We have generally open conversations about how he is feeling and we have spoke about learning, trying for what he wants etc but he is so down on himself I don't understand.

He had some squabbles in school that we have contacted school over and quashed and he says its all better now and I don't know what else to do. I need help in building resilience in him and improving his self worth but I'm a bit lost (and I am an emotional wellbeing worker!). I don't want to do work with him as a professional but I think he needs some support that I can't give. Any advice will be much appreciated.
