Mediations and solicitor together or not?

My ex has requested mediations about child arrangements and I am worried how to handle the questions and not get tripped up. I am also worried about agreeing to something prematurely. Should I speak to a solicitor at the same time as having mediations to consult them on what have been said, etc? Thank you!

My experience you have mediation separately first. Then you have a joint session. Unsure if it had changed since

It is an independent solicitor (you'd have your own each separate to this one).

Ask your solicitor’s advice on this
