Wheezy/congestion newborn

My 7 week old is really wheezy/sounds massively congested. Gets worse when he feeds. Can't get or talk to a GP until Friday

He isn't crying with it but it does make him uncomfortable and he isn't really sleeping at all. Anything I can do?

My partner isn't helping as he is a bit of a 24 hour job at the moment with not sleeping. I asked my partner to take him for an hour last night so I could get some food and wash and he literally tutted and said "I need to get myself some dinner so no" so that was nice.

Feeling a bit emotional because of that so not sure if I'm just over reacting but I'm quite worried. As I said he isn't crying, lots of wet nappies, poo looks fine... he does have a lot of red spots on his face but looks like baby acne

Have you tried saline solution? My baby also is very snuffly and midwife recommended using saline spray or drops to help her clear the congestion. It does help! We also have a snot sucker from Fridamom but she hates it when we use that.

As for your DP not doing any parenting, I'm so sorry to hear that. He needs to get his act together and give you a hand, parenting needs team work and it's not fair at all for you to be doing everything. Did he help out when on pat leave? Staying at home with a baby is still work!

Also just to add that when we pointed out the snuffling to our midwife and a GP that we saw about her reflux neither were worried and said newborns are noisy breathers and do get congested due to allergies (like dust or pollen), dry air etc and as long as their breathing is ok, wet/dirty nappies and feeding all normal then they don't worry. Definitely good to see a GP to be sure but hopefully it is completely normal congestion for your baby too.

Thank you so much -that puts my mind at ease a lot. He is breathing feeding and weeing pooing all fine just sounds like he has a monster cold all the time ans wheezy/sneezy. I'll try the saline for sure.

He helped massively when on pat leave. Was really hands on. Now the baby is more active/bit more of a handful and hard work he seems to have turned into a real asshole and doesn't help. I get he works during the day but so do I - as you say a newborn is work!

Hopefully he gets his act back together again :(

Hi my little one was like this at 4 weeks was horrible. Health visitor told me to put bowl of boiling water in bed room keep the air moist. Also the seline solution was brilliant and also I found when feeding to lay her down on bed or play gym and not cuddle her in as she was getting to hot to feed and health visitor said feed her little and often she was loads better after this xxx

A little better. Used the spray (god he hated that) and bowls of hot water and he seems better than yesterday but still there. Hopefully just continues to get better xx
