Postpartum bleeding 10 weeks after

FTM- Hi ladies need some advice. Can’t get a GP appointment untill Thursday.

Had a c-section 10 weeks ago, had bleeding untill week 6 then it stopped and a few days after I started bleeding again. I thought it was my period but never felt I had ovulation prior to it, bleeding lasted 5-6 days. Then 13 days after had bleeding again which lasted 5-6 days again and again I thought it was period. Now 3 weeks after last bleeding I started bleeding again and all 3 times there haven’t been any small clots which I normally have when I have my period and I’ve never had my usual period symptoms.

What is this, what’s going on? Shall I be worried?

Baby is having baby formula and I’m hand expressing twice day.

Thank you in advance

I've had two kids and my periods have been completely different after each of them and compared to how they were pre babies. After my first I had two periods in quick succession and then nothing for months (definitely wasn't pregnant). It could just be your body settling back but hopefully the GP will be able to advise.

@Treabrea Thank you for your reply.
I’m not sure if these are periods as I haven’t had ovulation so I’m assuming it’s postpartum bleeding but it’s been 10 weeks now 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyone else got any experience on this?

I had postpartum bleeding for AGES. About 8 weeks. (Vaginal birth not c-section though - don’t know if that makes a difference.) I’m convinced it was prolonged because I was taking iron tablets. Are you on any, by any chance?

K2012 · 03/08/2022 12:51

@BerthaYoung Thank you for your reply. I took iron tablets after the c-section but stopped about 2-3 weeks ago.

It's better to get it checked, in case there's some retained tissue.

I actually did not have any bleeding post-partum for the first few weeks, and then bleeding started later. I was told this was unusual, but no retained tissue was found on the ultrasound. No issues since then.

BerthaYoung · 03/08/2022 19:46

Could still be your boy rebalancing the iron maybe 🤔 but definitely worth getting checked out.

BerthaYoung · 03/08/2022 19:47

Your BODY obviously 🙄

I spoke to GP this morning who said she thinks it’s my period. She said if there was remaining tissue left in the womb I’d be feeling unwell, have fever, pain and might have some blood clots coming out.
I don’t feel any period pain or other symptoms as I normally do when I have my period and haven’t felt an ovulation prior to these bleedings so don’t know what’s going on 🤷🏻‍♀️
GP said to keep a diary of these periods and if it continues call her again end of the month.

Hi, how did this turn out? I am 10 weeks post c section now and every time I think the bleeding has stopped, I get a bit more a few days later... no loads, mainly when I wipe. going to the GP in a week so will raise then, but starting to worry. No other symptoms and am EBF so doubt it's period....

K2012 · 28/08/2022 14:28

Hi @stephd50 I gave birth 3 months ago and having my 4th bleeding now + I bled for 6 weeks after my c-section. The first 3 bleedings GP said it’s my period trying to come back even though I didn’t feel an ovulation 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just over 2 weeks ago I ovulated and period started 2 days ago so I don’t know what those previous bleedings were 🤷🏻‍♀️ But guess my period is back now even though it’s changed, it’s a lot heavier now than it used to be. Baby is having breast milk and formula so I guess you can get your period when you’re breastfeeding.

Let me know what your GP says

Thanks, will do. Yes, wondering if it is my period now after doing a bit of research. This is my 3rd baby and never had until around 6-7 months before when we started weaning but seems it is quite common. I will let you know... good luck to you and thanks for the reply x

K2012 · 29/08/2022 09:58

@stephd50 Yes I think it’s quite common. Forgot to mention that when GP said she thinks it’s my period that’s trying to come back she said “your body and hormones have been all over the place during pregnancy so now your body is trying to get your period back”

Good luck to you too and let me know how it goes xx

Hi, on hols at the moment so not until next week. Chatting to my sister and she reminded me that I have a fibroid... I only found out at my 12 week scan, but having Googled, apparently bleeding could be caused by that. Will see what doc
Says...

charley39 · 01/09/2022 21:25

I have a 5.5 month old. Second delivery and post partum bleeding completely different to the first! It felt like it went on and on. Probably around 8/9 weeks in total but it would stop for a few days then start back up. Now it’s definitely back to usual but I was very similar no ovulation pain and not like a normal period for me.

stephd50 · 07/09/2022 10:38

The doctor didn't seem too fussed... I should say it's eased in the last week and have had a couple of days of no bleeding. I would describe as spotting right now. He seemed to think that as it wasn't consistent and not soaking through a pad in a day, it was probably hormonal as things settle down. I am about to re-start pill which he said should settle if hormonal, so to see how that goes. I will go back in 4 weeks if still bleeding but have just booked a smear at end of September as now due... we will see but hoping it settles down. How are things with you?
